One Man’s Junk is Another Man’s Treasure

I think about this saying all of the time, especially every time I find some treasure at the secondhand stores that I visit. I keep finding that man’s junk, and I feel like it’s a treasure. I am either a collector or maybe a hoarder of all things I like!!!

One particular design of doily has always fascinated me. It uses small linen pieces with holes poked around them, crocheted around, and then either crocheted together or sewn together. Anytime that I find these pieces, I feel the need to purchase them. I keep wondering how they get the holes poked in them so evenly and who would be crazy enough to poke holes around little pieces of oddly shaped linen, cut each piece out, and then crochet around them, and then crochet them together.

Look what I found on one of my recent treasure hunts.

I found a baggie with linen pieces in it with some of the circles already crocheted around, and guess what? I had to buy it because I am going to be that crazy person who cuts little circles out and crochets around them and crochets them together.

I’m still not sure how the holes get in the fabric so evenly or how they are finished off with a buttonhole stitch around each one. Please let me know if anyone out there knows how this happens. Is there someone out there punching holes in little circles and stitching buttonhole stitch around the little holes? Or is there a machine that does this sort of thing?

Here are some pictures of some of the pieces that I have collected. Sorry about the lightness of the colors. Each one of them is pretty. The colors are really a hot pink, lime green, and two of them are beige.
